Wrote down common themes, phrases, and feelings that grabbed my attention. Spoke with the poet about their vision for the cover. Took a walk nature walk near and surrounding water or landscapes that resemble swales. <img width="960" height="540" width_o="960" height_o="540" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/9a313b0af3a2ec71b76e8dc515742c6b578326a6a263bf92852a57450e0d1873/Swale-1.jpg" data-mid="160657337" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/960/i/9a313b0af3a2ec71b76e8dc515742c6b578326a6a263bf92852a57450e0d1873/Swale-1.jpg" /> Process: Read poems and sketched phrases or imagery.Took nature walks with a camera in hand capturing organic shapes and waterside views.Stepping away from technology to experiment with ink, paper, and leaves as a brush.Collecting ink sketches and photographed images.Scanning the ink sketches into Photoshop, inverting them, and making the new negative space transparent.Editing photos that were taken on the hike to better emulate the color mood of the poems.Combined the ink sketches with the photography.Added typography with the proper hierarchy to both the front, first page, and back. Essentially it is a common trend that minority communities aren’t being provided the proper academic resources. In turn hindering the progress of students generation after generation. Progress should start with improving the schools not just making the downtown area a tourist attraction. We should focus more on developing the neighborhoods where its people live. The goal was to capture the jazziness of the 1920s era and the whimsical theme of the play. Audience: Attendees of Western Michigan University’s theatrical productions. Roles: Visual Design, Sketching, Mockups, and Developing Print-ready Files. Tools: Illustrator and Photoshop Design Approach: Capture the essence of the 1920s through typography, gestures, clothes, and color. Process: Sketched ideas of the initial reaction to the name of the musical.Watched a live recording of the play to get a better understanding of the storyline.Gathered images that related to both the musical and the era.Designed vectors in greyscale in Illustrator to experiment with different iterations of placement on the poster.Took the vectors into photoshop and manipulated the colors.
